Zoom & Enhance: Dynamic Discovery Through Adaptive Focus

As part of our V2 updates, we’ve reimagined the highlight menu to better support deep research workflows. In conversations with leading researchers and academics, one theme kept surfacing: follow-up queries often lacked sufficient context, creating friction and interrupting the research flow. This made us re-think our approach to make each research document more interactive and reduce the need for context switching. This required a re-design with an emphasis on short feedback loops and interactivity.

The menu now has three main features to help speed up your understanding of a topic and accelerate your research, without the need for context switching.

Feature 1: Define

Upon highlighting a word or phrase, the menu will appear and display a definition for the point of interest (where available). This helps look up any unfamiliar phrases without distracting you from your research topic.

Feature 2: Append Focus

Add new depth to your research with a single click. ‘Append Focus’ generates a refined view of your topic—like opening a new chapter in your investigation—directly below your current page. When used, it generates a refined view of your topic. The new chapter appears under the current page and presents a narrower, focused view of your research topic.

Feature 3: Queue Research

This creates a new context for your query. It works just the same as typing in the search bar but in a more convenient manner (and it runs in the background). This allows you to build up your collection of research, without having to switch context right away.
